This looks like a good place to reflect. Is this a real place?
It’s based on something from my childhood. It is a place in the city in which CnC’s city is based… Real or Not, I’ll let you figure out 😛
Yeah… time to do some deep thinking on how to proceed.
He needs a call from Momma. She can tell him what she thinks. Daddy is going to have blue balls after what he said.
I feel so bad for Jim. He was expecting to get the okay from his primary male role model but instead he just had all his hopes broken.
So were those Cliff Guns meant to fend off sky pirates or an alien invasion?
The harbor use to deal with planes of an amphibious nature yes.
I can see why Fred feels the way he does about Jim. I don’t know much about him but as an MD, he had to go through premed, medical school, and residency before he was able to start practicing medicine. His training would give him a perspective on dedication that most and his work would probably make him very serious. It should also be noted that doctors work long hours, so while he has known Jim for 24 years, he may not have spent enough time around him to see beyond the comic, sexy front that Jim projects and see the pain and struggles that this youngish eep-cat deals with. He may have never seen the side of Jim that his wife had just described to him.
I also wonder if he sees a lot of his wife in Josie. He may feel that his daughter needs someone like him who can be a counterweight to balance out her more passionate nature. In the strip it looks like Josie tends to be a steady hand that stabilizes both Jim and Sarina, but Fred might not understand his daughter well enough to know that.
I also wonder what he thinks/feels about the open nature of Jim’s relationship with Josie. Does he have a similarly open relationship with his wife or is he strictly monogamous? I could imagine him not approving of the triangular relationship between Jim, Jo, and Sarina. It may be argued that this is none of Fred’s business but when Jim asked him for his blessing, he is making this Fred’s business.
I may believe that Fred is wrong, but I can see where he’s coming from.
Just hope Jim doesn’t do something stupid. Mr Rodgers is probably being verbally skinned alive at this point by Mrs. Rodgers and having salt rubbed into it.
I’m wondering about how Jim casually tossed the box containing the ring in panel 2. If he’s not careful, it could be misplaced and possibly found by somebody else who often uses the Marauder. Possibly a certain tuxedo cat?
I hope Jim is not about to throw that ring off of the cliff
Given he tossed it into the back seat probably not. I think readers are more concerned he’d turn suicidal after suffering such a blow to his self-esteem and the feeling of betrayal by a trusted father figure.
Jim, a hint: If the father’s permission is that important, don’t splurge on the ring before obtaining said permission.
I wouldn’t call it splurging , so much as saving for months and months
