I think that even without the helpful Ninja’s darts, Darren’s punch might well have floored that jock. He had some serious body mechanics behind that swing, with a track runner’s legs assisting in giving force to the blow! Interesting though that the Ninja chose to protect Darren at all. Jim only told the Ninja that the boy was ‘okay’, and not to stop him like the ninja stops the others. He never asked the ninja to protect Darren too.
I am thinking that the Ninja just has a good sense of fair play in mind. A fight between a runner and a football player would never be a fair fight, the strength regimes of each sport is very different. Not to mention the Jock is a jerk.
I also think that he smells a rat. The way he responded in the last frame looks like he at least is feeling that something was not kosher about what happened.
